About this Assetpack:

This assetpack follows a modern retro approach, it takes inspirations from NES aesthetics, but changes the restrictions to be more suitable for modern machines. It creates a simple, yet compelling pixel art style reminiscent of classic gaming (which is also quick  & easy to edit and enhance for indiedevs).

It contains environment graphics to build a secluded little woodcutter village in the forest. You'll get a full package including everything you need, like (animated) background layers, animations and tilesets. With the tiles you can build fields, a church, shops, houses and a bridge. The tiles are sorted and arranged in multiple ways and can be comfortably used with Game Maker Studio 2, Unity or in a software like Tiled. Additionally you'll find multiple simplified files, which will greatly ease your usage experience.

Does this set fit together with any other assetpacks?

Yes!

This Tileset works perfectly together with the Windmill Village and the Waterfall Caves Tileset.

In conjunction with the Windmill Village you'll be able to build much more diversified villages, because both tilesets complement each other in terms of tiles used. YOu could combine the walls with the other tilesets roofs and vice versa or combine the fields to create more towns for your world. The water tiles perfectly fit together with the Waterfall Caves and you could map out water for the caves, if you own this tileset.

There are a couple more tilesets in the same style, some game props (e.g. lights and destructible containers) and there are various assetpack add-ons for the character available, which will greatly enhance the movement. check out all the available content for the Simple Side-Scroller series with this link:

amazing work!  I do have one question  though. The bridge tiles are clearly meant to have a background railing above the blocking tiles, but I don’t understand how this would work on the slopes.  When I import this into Tiled the same tile holds both the floor of slope as well as the background railing.

I think I’m missing something and confused about how this works. Can you help point me in the right direction?

Hey There,
Thanks.
Oh I can see how the slope sof the bridge might make problems depending how you set up the collision. I just uploaded a v1.1 which adds a couple of additional options for the bridge slopes and bridge railings.

I hope this will solve your troubles with the tileset.

This is perfect, thanks so much for the quick response!

Please, have a lot of fun with the assetpack!

Whoah.

Now do a winter version of this.. $$

Winter/Snow side-scroller tiles are on my idea list.

It makes me think of the first town in Valkyrie Profile 2 <3

Maybe, didn't really play that game but cpuld very well look simila,r since I was striving to get an early game town feel for this.

I used traditional Polish rural architecture as a reference for the buildings of this village.

beautiful work

Thanks
